Have you heard:

“I think they have lost the plot”

What does the part lost the plot mean?

to lose the plot (UK)
to be unable to act normally and/or to think sensibly/soundly; to be unable to cope with events
to have little to no understanding of a specific sequence of events or to lose touch with reality in general
