    Hi there,

I know this is from a while ago, but figured I’d try to help. Befall means “happen to” or “come to pass to”, but also has a negative implication. (such as an illness) Betide more closely means “happen”, but can also mean “happen to” less often. The difference is very slight. Betide is also very rarely using in American English. Hope that helps!
